We recently discovered that Guy's heritage stems from the famous Anton Scharff, who was a sculpture artist as well in the early 1800's! He created medallions of Johannes Brahms, Queen Victoria, King Ludwig II, and Prince Luitpold of Bavaria. This fact was made known to us by Mr. Robert W Chambers Jr. who is currently transcribing the original biography of Johannes Brahms from it's German origin to English.
Mr. Guy Scharff was born May 19, 1935 in Sierck-les-Bains, France. At a very young age, during the second World War, he was sent to Luxembourg to be raised by his grandparents.
At the age of thirteen he was enrolled as an apprentice in a local pastry shop. Guy spent three years mandatory apprenticeship attending L'Ecole D'Aptitude Professionelle de Patisser, were he graduated at seventeen as journeyman. He exercised his profession in Germany, France and Belgium.

Guy returned to Luxembourg where he attended evening classes for the next five years at L'Ecole Professi9nalle des Artisants. He graduated with a Master's degree in his field. He spent three years of military service in the French Army. In 1960, he immigrated to the United States of America.
Once settled in Denver, Colorado, he worked for Continental Airlines as a pastry chef for twenty years, for the Brown Palace Hotel for three years and operated his own business until retirement in 1997.
Guy likes to keep his mind and body busy. He has taken several art courses at ACC such as drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and photography.

Quoting him "Working with my hands and creating pastry figures for fifty years, led me to ceramic art, which challenges my creativity. These ceramic figures will last, whereas the pastry figures don’t last past dinner time! With the clay in my hands, I feel one with nature and become continuously creative.
My first sculpture was five dolphins titled "In Blue Harmony" and cast in bronze. My elk sculpture "Wapiti" was in oil clay and cast in bronze. My “Beethoven” was done with ceramic clay and silicone molds for reproduction, utilizing the lost-wax method and bronze finish.

My “Lady on the Beach” was done in ceramic. My "La Dame a La Rose”, was again done in ceramic. Both ladies were made in Marsseille France, during a seminar at L'Ecle des Beaux Arts in the year 2001. Another ceramic I made in France is my copy of "Jean d'Ars. les cinques Bourgois de Callais" by "rodin", which is presently in the Museum of Cassis France.

In addition to his very demanding occupation and busy schedule, Mr. Scharff finds time to workout every morning at the local gym. He loves to play racquetball, swim, and cycle.
Guy says, "I no longer have to climb the mountain. Now, I can fly above it, see more, and arrive at the top and see the same thing."

My bronze sculptures are created first with sculpting clay. I believe that working in a single medium helps me refine my work as the years make me a better sculptor.
Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
Many of my pieces are directly influenced from growing up in Europe, places throughout the world where I travelled.
